Man found dead in New Plymouth

A man has been found dead after being reported missing in New Plymouth last night.

The 79-year-old was last seen near the waterfront on the city's coastal walkway.

Police search and rescue crews and the Fire Service were called out to the Port St and Egmont St area last night to look for him.

The man was later found deceased, police said.

There were no suspicious circumstances, police said, and investigations were continuing into the events leading up to the man's death.
