The Gisborne man who died near Tolaga Bay on Saturday night has been named by police.
He was Chantze Shasa Moran-Lee, 26.
Gisborne Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford said the post-mortem examination on Moran-Lee's body was done on Monday and police were awaiting results.
He died at a property on Tauwhareparae
Rd inland from the bay on Saturday night. Police were called about 11.15pm.
Ford said an investigation was under way to establish the cause of Moran-Lee's death and the circumstances around it.
