Man found dead at Oamaru shopping block named

A man who was found dead in an Oamaru shopping block on Saturday has been identified by police.

He was 46-year-old Wayne John Ross of Oamaru.

A post-mortem would be carried out at 1pm and investigators were hoping to gain more information about the incident, police said.

The scene examination at the commercial premise on Arun St would also be completed today.

The property houses businesses including Danny's Butchery, Lego Addiction and Kelly's Cakes.

Police are appealing to anyone who saw Mr Ross around the Towey St or Arun St areas between 7pm on Friday and 5pm on Saturday.

It is believed he may have had contact with members of the community or made purchases at shops before to going to the Arun St address, police said.

Mr Ross was described as being of medium build, about 178cm tall, and was wearing blue jeans and a two-tone blue chequered jacket with wool skin lining and collar.
