A man, thought to be a teen male, was found dead at the bottom of a cliff on Auckland's North Shore this morning.
A passerby found the body at Mairangi Bay at about 11am and alerted St John ambulance, Inspector Peter Raynes said.
He had fallen from a 10 metre cliff onto rocks.
St John told police about the "unnatural death'' and said the man had injuries consistent with having fallen off the cliff, Mr Raynes added.
An upset woman at the scene, who didn't know the victim, said she was waiting for her grandson and was going for a walk when people came running towards her screaming telling her not to walk around.
The woman said there had been a number of young people in the area.
A cordon is in place outside the Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club while police investigate.
The incident is believed to have happened near the Crow's Nest Rise Walkway on the waterfront between Mairangi and Murrays Bays.
Fire, police and ambulances are at the scene, said a resident.
