Man fighting for life after falling off floor polisher

A 64-year-old man is in a critical condition after he fell off a ride-on floor polisher and was trapped underneath it.

Waikato Hospital spokeswoman Mary Anne Gill said he was in intensive care.

The man was working at Centre Place shopping mall in Hamilton when the accident occurred about 2am today, the Waikato Times reported.

He was driving the ride-on floor polisher, said to weigh hundreds of kilograms, when it fell over the edge of 1.5m ledge.

The man received serious head injuries.

He was trapped under the heavy machine until ambulance staff freed him.

Occupational Health and Safety was to investigate the accident.
