Man fighting for life after Christmas party attack

A man is on life support after he and his brother were attacked after a work Christmas party, police say.

The serious assault happened on Sunday morning in Mungavin Ave, Porirua, north of Wellington.

The brothers, 34 and 47, were near the Mungavin shops, police said today.

"Both men were approached by a group and set upon. The two men managed to get as far as the intersection of Mungavin Ave and Martin Rd before they were knocked to the ground. The group dispersed when police were called.

The brothers were taken to Wellington Hospital with head injuries.

The younger man was released later that day but his older brother was still on life support and in a serious condition.

"He has undergone surgery to remove a clot on his brain," police said.

Forensic scientists, police and 20 recruits from the Police College were helping with the investigation.
