An elderly man drowned while swimming at a beach on the Kapiti Coast last night.
The 74-year-old man was swimming with his 51-year-old daughter when they got into difficulties at Peka Peka Beach about 6pm.
The woman managed to swim to shore and was taken to Wellington Hospital in aserious condition.
Her father was unable to swim to shore and disappeared from view. A member of the public found his body just off the beach about 20 minutes later and pulled him ashore.
