Man dies swimming in Taupo

Police are investigating why a man collapsed and died while swimming in Lake Taupo.

Emergency services were called to Lake Terrace yesterday afternoon when a 52-year-old man from Palmerston North collapsed.

Senior Sergeant Tony Jeurissen says the cause of death is still being investigated but is not being treated as suspicious.

Local iwi blessed the area yesterday afternoon and put a rahui or restriction on water activity in the immediate vicinity. The rahui will be lifted on Friday.
