Man dies kayaking on Lake Taupo

A man has died while kayaking on Lake Taupo following a suspected heart attack on Monday.

The 51-year-old Turangi man had set off from Tokaanu, south of Taupo on Monday afternoon, a Greenlea Rescue Helicopter spokesman said.

"He had a heart attack and then drowned, or had a heart attack and died and then was pulled out of the water - it's a was bit uncertain, we were called to a drowning."

The man's funeral was due to be held today. A post-mortem examination to determine his cause of death had yet to be completed.
