A 63-year-old man died in a farm accident near Oamaru this morning, police say.

Emergency services were called to the North Otago farm property at around 11.20am this morning.

The man died at the scene.

No other person was present when the accident occurred, police said in a short statement.

The death has been referred to WorkSafe and the coroner.

A St John spokesman said they were alerted at 10.44am.

An ambulance and rescue helicopter rushed to the scene, described as a private residence on Ardgowan Rd.

"There was one patient, male, with critical injuries, who unfortunately died at the scene," a spokesman said
