A man has died at a level crossing in Blenheim, police say.

The incident occurred about 3.15pm at the level crossing on Budge St.

The train is blocking the level crossing, so motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area for the next couple of hours, police said in a statement.

Pedestrians can use the nearby Dillons Point footbridge.

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances and the man's death will be referred to the coroner.
