Man dies after van spins off gravel road

A man is dead after his van left a gravel road and collided with a bank east of Bennydale in the Waikato.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Mangaokewa Road around 10:30 last night.

Inspector Marcus Lynam says it appears the driver over-corrected when one van wheel left the hard surface.

As a result the van spun, crossed the centre line, collided with a bank and rolled.

Inspector Lynam says the man wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

They're looking at whether speed and alcohol also played a part.
