A man has died after his motorbike collided with a car in Christchurch.
The crash happened at the intersection of Gloucester and England Streets at 5pm.
Police have named the man as John McDonald, 59, of Dallington.
Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey said the man died in hospital last night.
"Mr McDonald's motorcycle and a black Nissan Pulsar were both travelling east on Gloucester Street when it appears that the motorcyclist may have wandered into the cycle lane on Gloucester Street," Mr Harvey said.
He said some motorcycles are using the cycle lanes when they are required to use the same portion of the road as other vehicles.
Mr Harvey said anyone who saw the crash should call Detective Constable Matt Reynolds on (03) 363 7970.
