Man dies after falling off swing bridge in Kapiti Coast gorge

A 35-year-old man has died after falling off a swing bridge in a Kapiti Coast gorge.

A St John spokesman said it was called to the incident at Otaki Gorge Rd near Otaki at 5.45pm.

Police and the Fire Service are also responding.

The man's death has been referred to the coroner.

His name will not be released until family members have been notified, police said.

The 62m long steel bridge over the Otaki River is at the western side of the Tararua Range to Otaki Forks.

It is at the start of several tracks into the range.
