Man dies after early morning assault in Nelson

Two men have been arrested after a man was killed following an alleged assault in Nelson early yesterday morning.

Police were called to the incident at Franklyn Village about 2.30am Saturday morning, after reports of men fighting.

A 46-year-old man was transported to hospital with a head injury.

A 17-year-old man and a 27-year-old man are in police custody.

They have both been charged with assault with intent to injure.

Nelson Bays Police have a team of 20 staff working on the investigation and specialists from ESR are assisting with the scene examination.

Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
