Man dies after car hits power pole

A man has died after the car he was driving hit a power pole in Taranaki this afternoon.

The crash happened on Ketemarae Road, Hawera about 4.15pm.

The victim was the sole occupant of the vehicle and there were no other injuries, police said.

Diversions are in place at the road, off State Highway 45, while it is closed.

The Serious Crash Unit are at the scene.
