Man dead after single vehicle crash in Whanganui

People gathered at the site of fatal car crash on the corner of Duncan St and Anzac Pde the morning after it happened.

A crash that left a man dead in the early hours of yesterday involved just one vehicle, Whanganui police say.

A police statement released this evening confirmed the 27-year-old local died on the intersection of Anzac Parade and Duncan St, Whanganui.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 2.30am.

Police initially said the accident involved two cars.

However, they said tonight only one car was involved in the crash.

No one else was injured and the Serious Crash Unit is now investigating the circumstances and cause of the accident.
