Man crushed by roller in serious condition

A 67-year-old Matamata man is in a serious condition in hospital after he was crushed by a roller he was driving yesterday.

The man was driving the roller along a driveway about 4pm when it toppled down a slope and crushed him.

He suffered chest injuries and was flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.

He was now in a serious condition in the hospital's High Dependency Unit, a spokeswoman for Waikato Hospital told NZPA.

The incident had been referred to the Department of Labour, a police spokesman said.
