Man committed for trial for murder of sex-worker

A 37-year-old Otahuhu man has been committed for trial for the murder of sex-worker Marlene Kelly.

Kevin Thomas Helps appeared in the Manukau District Court at a depositions hearing this morning before two Justices of the Peace.

Marlene Kelly, a 40-year-old mother of six, was stabbed with a fish-filleting knife in a carpark behind the Otahuhu shopping centre on February 2.

Helps was arrested six weeks later.

Interim name suppression was lifted today.

Helps entered a plea of not guilty and then shook his head when committed for trial.
