Russell James Edward Weeks, 23, unemployed, faces 10 charges after an incident last month that closed one of Christchurch's busiest intersections for more thanthree hours at peak commuting time.
The patrol car was damaged and a police officer taken to hospital for observation after the collision at the intersection of Colombo St and Brougham St about 6.30am on January 30.
Weeks was also taken to hospital after suffering convulsions and collapsing into a coma while in police custody. He spent four days under guard in Christchurch Hospital's neurological ward.

Weeks also faces charges of possessing methamphetamine and having a glass pipe for the commission of a drugs offence.
In court today, Weeks' lawyer, Tony Garrett, sought a remand without plea for a pre-depositions conference on March 30.
Mr Garrett noted that police opposed bail and said Weeks consented to a remand in custody.
