A man is in custody after allegedly pointing an imitation firearm at a young girl from a moving car.
The girl took down the registration details of the vehicle after the incident in Motueka on Saturday and police later found it in a carpark in the town.
The occupants ran off but a police search of the vehicle uncovered an imitation firearm and other weapons.
The vehicle's owner was later arrested charged with possessing an offensive weapon, unlawfully carrying an imitation firearm and being an unlicensed driver failing to comply with prohibition.
He was also charged with wilful damage over an incident the say in which a car had its tyres slashed and windows smashed.
