Man charged over street fight

A man is in a critical condition after suffering a fractured skull in a fight with another man in Auckland last night.

Police said that the 55-year-old was in an induced coma in Auckland Hospital after the incident on Jervois Rd, Herne Bay, around 6.30pm.

A 22-year-old unemployed chef from Grey Lynn had been arrested and charged with assault and will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley, of Auckland CIB, thanked the public and residents of Jervois Rd for assisting the injured man and for providing valuable information that led to the arrest.
