Man charged in connection with Waipiro Bay death

A man is due to make an appearance in Gisborne District Court today following the suspicious death of a man at Waipiro Bay, a remote farming settlement 22km south of Ruatoria, yesterday.

The dead man was Isaac James Maurirere, aged 29, single, of Waipiro Bay.

Detective Sergeant Steve Smith said his body was found yesterday afternoon in a caravan in a remote part of the bay.

A 31-year-old man would appear in Gisborne District Court today charged with assault.

A decision on further charges would be made after scene examination and a post-mortem examination were completed, said Detective Sergeant Smith.
