A man has been charged with assault following the death of another man in Auckland last night.
The victim died shortly after he was taken to Auckland City Hospital at about 11pm.
A crime scene has been established at Outhwaite Park in Grafton, where Detective Inspector Kevin Hooper said theassault was believed to have happened between 6.30pm and 10.30pm.
Mr Hooper said a man will appear in Auckland District Court today charged with assault.
He appealed for anyone with further information to contact police.
The victim was taken to hospital by an associate but died shortly after, said Mr Hooper.
The perimeter of Outhwaite park, on the corner of Grafton and Carlton Gore Rds was cordoned off this morning with police or security guards are at each entrance.
Occupants of properties near the park said they did not hear any disturbances last night.
