Man attacked and robbed for his shoes

A man is in hospital with head injuries after being attacked and robbed of personal property, including his shoes, in Mount Maunganui this morning.

The 29-year-old man was walking along Maunganui Rd, near Tui St, between 5.30am and 6am when he was jumped on from behind by three men who took his shoes, wallet and cellphone.

Senior Sergeant Carl Purcell said the offenders were thought to be caucasians of unknown age and fled in a dark coloured station wagon.

Police appealed for any witnesses to the attack to come forward.
