Man arrested over terrifying carjack

A suspect in the carjacking was captured on CCTV footage.

A man has been arrested in connection with a carjacking in which a pistol was pointed at a driver's back and his $65,000 car stolen.

A 37-year-old has been charged with aggravated robbery and will appear in the North Shore District Court tomorrow.

Student Shaarn Crosswell, 21, said he had a pistol pointed at his back on Saturday after a young woman at a McDonald's carpark in Albany duped him into giving her a ride in his 1999 Nissan R34 GT-R V-spec Model.

Mr Crosswell said he had agreed to give the young brunette a ride to Orewa.

He said a man who jumped into the back seat soon after produced a gun and told him to get out of the car.

Mr Crosswell said he got out, his arms raised, while the thief struggled to work out how the car's gears worked. ``Eventually he just nailed it and took off.''

He said he was gutted to lose the car.

"It's quite a rare car here in New Zealand and it's one of the tidiest around as well. It's not just some Skyline that's just been thrashed.''

The white car has the number plate STIG, and is yet to be found.

Police are still looking for the woman.
