Man arrested over Auckland sword attack

A man has been arrested after two women suffered injuries from a sword in Auckland today, police say.

Police were called to a domestic incident in Paerata about 1.30pm.

A 19-year-old man fled the scene in a vehicle and was found soon after, entering the motorway north at Papakura, a police spokeswoman said.

Multiple police vehicles pursued the vehicle until Te Irirangi Drive where the man took the offramp, drove over the grass median strip and crashed.

He was arrested by armed officers and taken into custody without further issue, she said.

"Police are aware that a number of members of the public witnessed the arrest on Te Irirangi Drive and thank them for their patience."

He will appear in court tomorrow facing assault and driving charges.
