Man arrested over assault on baby

A 28-year-old man has been charged over an assault on a 10-week-old baby in Lower Hutt.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper said the baby was taken by ambulance to hospital early yesterday suffering bruising and a possible head injury.

The baby remained under observation in hospital today.

Mr Cooper said a man was charged with assault on a child and was due to appear in Lower Hutt District Court on Thursday.

Police would not say whether the man charged was the baby's father.
