A 38-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was found bound and gagged on the side of a road in Dome Valley.
The man has been charged with kidnapping and appeared in the North Shore District Court today.
He has been granted interim name suppression and is due to reappear next week.
Police said in a statement they were not ruling out the possibility of further arrests "as the inquiry unfolds".
The victim remains in Auckland City Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The woman was found by a member of the public on Waiwhiu Rd at about 7am on Monday with serious head injuries.
The Herald revealed on Tuesday that she had been bound and gagged.
Police appealed to the public to help identify the woman, who has a distinctive rose tattoo on her left calf with the words Mum and Dad written on it.
Numerous tips made to a helpline led to the identification of the woman and the location of her family who went to her hospital bedside.
Police have not released her identity.
Because the woman was unable to speak to police, witnesses were crucial in solving the case, police said.
