A man has been arrested after reports of a person entering shops central Tauranga shops with a gun.
Tauranga police Senior Sergeant Steve Hindmarsh said it appeared the gun was not real. "It was something that looked like a firearm."
Mag and Turbo owner Shane Morgan said the firearm looked likea BB gun. The man came into his shop this morning and starting asking staff "really random questions", Mr Morgan said.
The staff member talking with the man noticed he had a pistol in his hand and tried to end the conversation.
The man walked outside and started playing with the gun, before walking off down Wharf St where he was arrested.
Mr Morgan said he thought the man may have been intoxicated. "My salesperson was a little freaked out by it. It was definitely not a pleasant experience."
Mr Hindmarsh said it was unclear if the man had entered more than one shop.
"We don't know if it was robbery motivated or not."
