Man admits raping Wairarapa girl

ADMITTED: Darron John Fisher has pleaded guilty to 48 counts relating to the sexual violation of a young girl.

A 48-year-old truckie has been convicted of three counts of raping a Wairarapa girl aged under 12, indecently assaulting the girl multiple times and numerous other charges.

Darron John Fisher, of Upper Hutt, through his defence lawyer Ian Hard, pleaded guilty to 48 charges in Masterton District Court yesterday.

He stood in the dock looking towards Judge Gerard Lynch during most of the court proceedings, not reacting to people in the public gallery who called out insults.

Judge Gerard Lynch convicted Fisher of three charges of male rapes female under 12, seven of unlawful sexual connection with a female under 12, six of knowingly making or copying objectionable material, 15 of indecently assaulting a female under 12, and 17 charges of possession of objectionable material.

Fisher had worked for 11 years as an owner/driver for a national transport firm until last year, when he was sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment for two counts of doing an indecent act with a girl under 12.

The indecent acts related to when Fisher took the victim out to the garage while her brother was taking a bath. They played a game and Fisher placed the victim on a chair and pulled down her pants.

The victim told him to stop and that she did not like it. He also pulled down his own shorts to reveal his underwear.

Later, they bathed together for about an hour. Fisher played games with the girl.

Her brother came in at one point and saw Fisher performing an indecent act, and also his sister touching Fisher.

Fisher tried to appeal the sentence for those offences but Justice Joe Williams found Fisher's personal reflections downplayed the offending and he dismissed the appeal.

Mr Hard said Fisher was pleading guilty to the 48 charges at the earliest opportunity.

Judge Lynch remanded Fisher in custody to appear for sentencing in Wellington District Court on April 24.
