A man has admitted to bringing videos of children performing sex acts into New Zealand on his two iPads after returning home from a holiday in Fiji.
The man, who has interim name suppression, pleaded guilty to eight charges of importing and exporting objectionable publications to and from New Zealandnear the end of last month.
In the Napier District Court today, he also admitted another two charges of making intimate visual recordings.
According to a summary of facts, the 42-year-old left for Fiji on January 25 and returned again five days later.
When he arrived at Auckland International Airport, Customs, who have brought eight of the charges against the man, searched the man's luggage.
The facts state footage and images were already on the electronic devices before the defendant left for Fiji.
During an interview at the airport the defendant said the iPads were his and only he used them.
He was aware of the illegal publications and said he had been addicted to the publications for the past four years since turning to them after quitting smoking.
It is illegal under section 54 and section 56 of the Customs and Excise Act 1996 to export or import objectionable publications.
The man's lawyer, Eric Forster, sought a pre-sentence report and his client was remanded at large on bail until April 5.
