A group has been charged with fraud after a number of elderly women had large sums of cash taken from their bank accounts.
Two women and a man appeared at North Shore District Court today, each facing charges of participating in a criminal gang, burglary and fraud, Constable Gregory Thomsenof the Takapuna combined investigation unit said.
Over the past few weeks, a team of North Shore police investigators had been working to identify the offenders responsible for the fraud and dishonestly offences, Mr Thomsen said.
This resulted in a number of elderly women having large sums of cash taken from their bank account, he said.
Mr Thomsen said yesterday morning a number of search warrants were executed and a large amount of clothing was seized, including wigs, caps, hoodies, handbags and shoes which police believe are linked to the offences.
He said police were also still looking for another male who was believed to be involved.
To prevent further cases, Mr Thomsen encouraged people to not keep their Eftpos pin number in their wallet and advised people to never give it out to anyone else.
"Whenever entering a pin for a bank card make every effort to conceal your actions and be aware of other persons watching you as you enter it. If someone is nearby wait until they move away.
