Xu's lawyer Michael Kan asked Judge Christopher Field to suppress his client's identity but the judge said there was no evidence publication of the defendant's name would cause him extreme hardship or prejudice a fair trial.
Judge Field later denied Xu bail and remanded him in custody until April.
It is understood there will be an application for electronically-monitored bail before that hearing.
