Man accused of lighting rubbish bin fires in Wellington appears in court

The 47-year-old man accused of lighting a number of rubbish bins on fire across Wellington has appeared in court.

Robert Mackie appeared briefly at the Wellington District Court today.

He entered no plea to seven charges of arson and one of burglary.

Court documents allege he set fire to six rubbish bins across the city in Wakefield St, Courtenay Place, Victoria St and Majoribanks St, and a mesh cloth on Willis St.

Judge Ian Mill remanded him in custody to reappear in court on the 25th of October.
