Man accused of killing 5-month-old named

Name suppression for a 21-year-old Hastings man charged with killing a five-month-old baby was lifted in court today.

Trent Owen Ngaruhe Hapuku is accused of the manslaughter of Mikara Ranui Jarius Reti on January 11.

In Hastings District Court today he was further remanded in custody until March.

An earlier appearance in court had resulted in eruptions from the public gallery in support of Hapuku.

Today extra police were at the courthouse, but the packed gallery remained quiet.
