Man, 32, on murder charge over hit-and-run

A 32-year-old Kawerau man has been arrested for the murder of Murupara teenager Jordan Herewini.

The 16-year-old was run over at his home last week during a gang brawl in the town.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Loper says the accused man is also charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, aggravated burglary and participating in a criminal group. He says the 32-year-old will appear in the Rotorua District Court tomorrow.

Mr Loper says it is likely further charges will follow relating to the incidents in Murupara that night.

Investigations will continue next week with 11 police staff from outside the area assisting with enquiries.
