Major roads closed by snow and ice now open

Snow and ice have causing problems on roads around the country.

The North Island's Desert Road has just been reopened after being closed this morning due to snow.

Police are still advising motorists to show "extreme caution" when passing through this area

State Highway Five between Napier and Taupo was also closed this morning, but has now reopened.

In Dunedin, police are warning drivers roads are treacherous.

They say there was a lot of black ice and there have already been several accidents.
