Major fire at Christchurch home

A major fire has damaged a Christchurch home this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Aldwins Rd in Linwood just after 4pm.

Southern communications centre spokesman Daryl Ball said on arrival the blaze was "going well".

"There was quite a bit of damage," he said.

A third fire truck was called to the scene but left soon after.

Mr Ball said the fire was extinguished at about 4.30pm.

He said Aldwins Rd attracted heavy traffic and Police arrived on scene to direct the vehicles.

The house was vacant at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire was unknown and an investigation was underway.
