Magnitude 7.8 earthquake strikes Drake Passage, no tsunami risk

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake was recorded in the Drake Passage, between Antarctica and the southern tip of South America, on Saturday.

A magnitude 7.8 earthquake has been recorded in the Drake Passage, between Antarctica and the southern tip of South America.

The US Geological Survey reported the quake at a depth of 10km today.

A tsunami potential threat warning for Chile was initially issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.

A new forecast has since been issued saying there is no tsunami risk for any coast.
