The burned-out historic mansion of former property developer Mark Lyon sold this week after auction for $2.85 million, well below its $3.8 million rating valuation.
A spokesman for agents Bayleys said an Aucklander bought the Epsom house, "but he doesn't want to be identified and is not high profile".
The
house at 9 Omana Ave, which backs on to Government House, was gutted by a mysterious fire late last year.
Quotable Value - which values properties for rating purposes - lists the 3108sq m site as being worth $2 million and the house $1.8 million.
Armed police stormed the filthy property after the September 24 fire and found ammunition and drugs, believed to have been left behind by gang members.
Lyon has made numerous court appearances in the past few months and is now in the Cook Islands awaiting a trial in Auckland on firearm charges.
Last month, he was granted bail and was to spend the next five months in the islands.
The 47-year-old Lyon has rarely been out of the news since the Epsom mansion was gutted and police named him as a fugitive from the law.
