The Poverty Bay East Coast indoor bowls competitive season ended with the Gordon’s Pharmacy Closing Trios.
After the four preliminary rounds, only two teams secured enough points to qualify for the final.
The team of David Lynn, Bryan Pulley and Sean Haskins played off against Malcolm Trowell, Jakeb Te Kani-Brownand Doc Tipene.
Lynn’s team started strongly, winning six of the first seven ends to lead 8-1.
However, on the eighth end, Trowell’s team gained three points to close the margin to 8-4.
In the final end, Trowell’s team were holding four shots but Lynn managed to draw the second shot to secure the win 8-5.
It was a first centre title for Sean Haskins, topping off a stellar year in junior and Poverty Bay East Coast representative fixtures.
The Poverty Bay East Coast team of Andrew, Adam and Rachael Rickard and Coralie Campbell-Whitehead finished a creditable fourth in the national mixed fours final at the New Zealand Indoor Bowls Super Finals weekend held in Wellington.
The team started strongly in winning their first four games but lost their next three games to the eventual first, second and third placegetters Ashburton, Otago and Manawatū.
Former Poverty Bay East Coast representative Nathan Trowell, now with Auckland, holds the Grant Harvey Memorial Trophy for the Player of the Tournament at the Young Guns competition in Hamilton.
Dylan Foster flew the Poverty Bay East Coast flag high at the Young Guns (under-30) competition held at the Waikato Indoor Bowling Centre in Hamilton.
Foster and Waikato partner Teri Blackbourn placed third-equal in the pairs.
Dylan’s older brother Matthew (now playing for Otago) and cousin Nathan Trowell (Auckland) won the pairs.
Trowell also won the singles, with Matthew third-equal, and his pairs-singles title double saw him named winner of the Grant Harvey Memorial Trophy for Player of the Tournament.
