An Auckland man was able to take his wife out for a Valentine's Day meal after a $3.5 million Lotto win at the weekend.

The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, bought his lottery ticket after buying some beer.

"It was an amazing feeling. I buy Lotto nearly every week with the dream of being a big winner, so when it happened I just went, 'Oh my God'."
