Lower Hutt police officer injured by fleeing suspect

A police officer was injured in Lower Hutt early today while trying to stop an alleged offender fleeing.

An 18-year-old Waikanae man will appear in the Hutt Valley District Court today on a range of charges, including burglary, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, excess breath alcohol, failing to stop when required, dangerous driving, failing to stop to ascertain injury and injuring with intent.

A police officer suffered minor injuries trying stop the alleged offender, police said.

The officer was treated by ambulance staff and is continuing to receive support from police.
