Six people split First Division’s $1m prize, taking home $166,667 each.
The tickets were sold at Lakeview Superette in Auckland, Hill Superette in Pukekohe, Pak’nSave in Napier City, and to MyLotto players in Waikato, Palmerston North and Marlborough.
Another 20 players won $32,541 each in Second Division.
One lucky player also won this evening’s Strike Four prize, bagging $200,000.
Must be won draw on Saturday
However, as no one took home the big prize, Powerball has increased to $55m for Saturday – the largest jackpot ever offered.
It is a “must be won” draw and if no one is wins Powerball First Division, the prize pool rolls down to the next highest division with winners.
“The three $50m must be won draws we’ve previously held were all won by multiple winners, so there’s a chance that might happen this time too,” Lotto NZ head of corporate communications Will Hine said.
“Regardless of how many people win on Saturday, we know the ripple effect of this win is likely to be felt far and wide in the winners’ communities.”
Lotto expects stores will be busy from mid-afternoon on Saturday.
“The last hour before sales close at 7.30pm will also be busy online,” said Hine.
“Our best advice for anyone wanting to buy a ticket is to get in early and avoid those busy times.”
What to do if you win
Ticket holders can see immediately if they have won if they purchased a ticket through MyLotto. Prizes of $1000 or less are automatically credited to the account.
For prizes exceeding $1000, winners must complete an online prize claim form.
Winners with a physical ticket must still visit a Lotto retailer to claim their prize.
For the Powerball jackpot to be claimed, a ticket holder must get all six Lotto numbers correct as well as the added Powerball number.
