REVIVAL: The former site of Domino's Pizza on Chapel St.
Domino's Pizza is set to return to Masterton and is seeking a site and a franchisee.
The company's New Zealand general manager, Scott Bush, said yesterday the planned return is in part due to requests from people for Domino's to return to the town and also because the firm itselfis determined to start up again in Masterton.
Domino's traded in Masterton as a store run by the chain itself but closed in November 2012, with five jobs lost.
The then management said the closure was essentially because the company could not find a franchisee.
Mr Bush said Domino's was the country's largest pizza company.
"We need a site and a franchisee to help make this possible. We are looking for a local to be our next star," he said.
Mr Bush said the progress made by the company in the past few years meant it was able to offer " fantastic opportunities for someone who wanted to get into their own business, including intensive training and ongoing support".
Domino's has a "long-term vision" to become a permanent fixture in Wairarapa.
"We have the ability to offer potential landlords and franchisees a strong global brand, with a large number of resources to pull from, we want a long-term relationship."
Once the store was up and running Domino's would be looking for staff, with jobs for 15-20 people.
Mr Bush said the jobs should not be seen as just a pay cheque, but as a career, as he himself had started out as a delivery driver.
"Many of our franchisees have started out by working in stores," he said.
Mr Bush said Domino's had a record breaking year and "all signs are pointing to another one to follow".
