Wairarapa students who sat NCEA exams helped bring to a near-standstill the New Zealand Qualifications Authority website yesterday.
NCEA results were released yesterday and ended a long wait for more than 1800 Wairarapa students and tens of thousands across New Zealand despite a flood of traffic to the NZQA website.
NZQA spokesman Lloyd Quartermaine said 1872 Wairarapa students sat NCEA levels 1, 2, and 3 last year and a far smaller number had been internally assessed.
He said more than 143,000 exam-sitting students and some 20,000 internally assessed students across the country had been able to access their results online from 8am yesterday.
But high demand brought the site to a near-standstill for many users yesterday morning.
An NZQA spokeswoman said the site was tested before the results were released and a glitch appeared on Monday. Resources had been increased to deal with the data released yesterday.
"Even with this amount of preparation some users are facing delays being able to log in to access results. We are actively managing the system to maximise performance."
