Log truck driver killed in forestry accident

A logging truck rolled on a forestry road in the Bay of Plenty this morning, killing the driver.

The crash occurred on Forestry Road Six, mid-way between Kaingaroa and Reporoa, in the Kaingaroa forest, 47km south of Rotorua.

A fire service spokesman said it looked like the driver had driven over a steep bank.

The truck was fully loaded at the time.

Murupara Police Shift Inspector, Ian Brooker, said they received a call at 10.55am that the truck had plunged 25m over a bank.

The crash was discovered by a fellow logging truck driver and police were still at the scene.
