Burglars fled the wrong way down the motorway in an early morning police chase after a liquor store was targeted.
The burglars are yet to be apprehended.
At 3.30 this morning the Oteha Valley Liquor Centre in the Auckland suburb of Oteha was burgled.
Police said two cars that were spotted shortly after the burglary refused to stop when signalled.
A chase ensued with the vehicles separating at the Greenlane interchange.
Police continued to follow one car, but gave up the chase because it entered the Southwestern Motorway the wrong way at the Cavendish Rd on-ramp.
Not long after, the car crashed into a median barrier and both occupants ran from the vehicle.
While the pair is still on the run, the items stolen from the liquor store have been found in the vehicle.
