A light earthquake rattled Canterbury shortly after midnight on Sunday morning.
The 3.1 magnitude quake struck 10km east of Christchurch, Geonet reported, and was "likely felt" by those in the area.
The quake's depth was 14km and its intensity was classified as light by Geonet.
It hit at 12.18am.
